THE RESOURCE SPOT

When I started out on my journey, I had no idea where to begin or what resources were out there that could really help me to navigate the roads I'd have to travel along the way. That's why I created this "Resource Spot." Whether you're new on your journey of caring or have been on it for a while, I hope the information provided will make your journey easier. New resources will be added frequently, so check back often. If you have any questions or need help in any way, please feel free to contact me.

RECOMMENDED BOOKS

Below are some books that have strengthened me on my journey, that I hope will do the same for you.

AGENCIES

The ACTS 2 Project provides support to African-American Alzheimer's caregivers throughout the state of Florida.

The Department of Elder Affairs administers programs and services for elders across the state of Florida through 11 Area Agencies on Aging, which operate as Aging and Disability Resource Centers (ADRCs). These ADRCs function as a single, coordinated system for information and access to services for all Floridians seeking long-term care resources. The ADRCs provide information and assistance about state and federal benefits, as well as available local programs and services. See below to contact your local ADRC.

The Alzheimer's Association leads the way to end Alzheimer's and all other dementia--by accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support. They also have a 24/7 Support Helpline. If you need help, please reach out by calling 800.272.3900.

The Alzheimer's Project provides comfort, support, and assistance to persons with memory disorders and their caregivers across the Big Bend area of Florida. They offer Respite Services, Caregiver Support Groups, Educational Courses for Caregivers, and Counseling.

Elder Care Services is the leading provider of community-based senior care. Since our founding in 1970 we have been driven by compassionate and generous community members. Each year, over 800 individuals give thousands of hours of service, from delivering Meals on Wheels, to providing companionship, to supporting events. Together, our community partners help us improve the quality of life for seniors and their caregivers.

The National Family Caregiver Support Program (NFCSP) provides grants to states and territories to fund various supports that help family and informal caregivers care for older adults in their homes for as long as possible.
